The Health and Research Sector

JOBEX Adelaide will feature 24 of the State’s leading businesses including SAHMRI, Bionomics, Micro-X, Calvary Wakefield and Ellex Medical Lasers from the Health and Research sector.

The Health and Research industry is creating jobs in South Australia through a range of world-leading projects such as the Adelaide BioMed City, including the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and its proposed expansion SAHMRI 2, the brand-new Royal Adelaide Hospital – the world’s most advanced hospital facility – and the roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Up to 6,000 new jobs will be created across the State to support the NDIS in the Disability Services Sector, covering a wide range of positions, varying from support workers to IT workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, drivers, managers and many more.

South Australia also continues to emerge as a hub of advanced health industries, with a range of South Australian medical devices and technology, pharmaceutical and bio-tech companies growing rapidly on the back of international success.

More and more health businesses from interstate and overseas are discovering Adelaide as a Health and Research hub where they can thrive, creating highly skilled jobs through their investment and expansion in this key growth sector.

Dr. Leanna Read

Renowned biotechnology expert Dr. Leanna Read is South Australia’s Chief Scientist and chair of the South Australian Science Council.

She holds several board positions and has led a number of successful research and commercial ventures, including the Cooperative Research Centre for Tissue Growth and Repair, widely considered to be one of the most successful commercially focused CRCs.

A physiologist by training, Leanna has published over 90 scientific papers, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of South Australia and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.

She was named the 2006 South Australian of the Year (Science and Technology) and was the 2011 Central Region winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the Technology Category.

She will share her wealth of executive, board and investment experience in research-focused businesses when she speaks at JOBEX.
